Why do I need an air purifier?

This is a question we get a lot from home owners, "Why do I need an air purifier?", "Why are air purifiers important?", "What do I benefit from having one?".
Think of all the pet dander, dust,  germs and bacteria's that you pick up when you are out and about, mold  etc. Think of when you or your children come home sick from school, most of which are all viral. All of those allergens and pathogens have to go somewhere, where do they go? They get pulled into your homes HVAC system and then blown back out into your home circulating dirty air that can damage your lungs and even your immune system. Yes, the filters you use can also help with these pathogens and allergens, however, there is only so much that a filter can filter out. Most of the time when those filters get dirty (especially if you are a pet lover like we are), dust, dirt and allergens start to pile up on the filter making it less efficient, even before it is time to change out your filter. Filters can only capture particles 10.0 microns or larger. Anything smaller is almost impossible to detect or see with the naked eye. This is where air purifiers step in to clean and purify the air before circulating it back into your home.

How do they work?

There are different types of air purifiers. One of the most common is a Ultraviolet light purifier. An HVAC ultraviolet air purifier can kill tiny microorganisms, such as bacteria, using rays of UV light. Another common air purifier is a ionizing air purifier. An ionizing air purifier produces charged particles that attract and capture particles in the air. Groups of tiny particles stick together and become too heavy to remain airborne, or they get captured by the HVAC filtration system.

How do they benefit me?
If you suffer from allergies, asthma or any upper respiratory issues, you will benefit from an air purifier. If you have children and/or pets, you will benefit from the air purifiers. Air purifiers even kill viruses like the Corona Virus! The great thing about some of the air purifiers is the maintenance is very minimal.

Air purifiers remove the following from your home:
  • Traps bacteria, mold spores and viruses (including corona virus)
  • Traps pet dander and allergens
  • Traps dust
  • Removes dangerous volatile organic compounds
  • Neutralizes smoke from fireplaces and tobacco products
  • Removes odors from home

One of our favorite air purifiers is called the iWave. One of the great things about the iWave is that there are no replacement parts and no ongoing maintenance needed once installed. How does it work? When air is passed through the iWave, it produces ions that removes all of the particles listed above. iWave uses patented technology, called needle-point bi-polar ionization, to create equal amounts of positive and negative ions.  When these ions are injected into the air stream, they break down passing pollutants and gases into harmless compounds like oxygen, carbon dioxide, nitrogen and water vapor. When the ions come in contact with viruses, bacteria or mold, they remove the hydrogen molecules – without them, the pathogens have no source of energy and will die.  The ions also attach to allergens like pollen and other particles, causing them to band together until they are large enough to be caught by your ventilation system’s air filter.

If this is something you think you and your family would benefit from or would be interested, reach out to us and we can give you a variety of options. One of our techs will be happy to help get you on the path to cleaner quality air.
