Hurricane season is fast approaching. Though we are informed and prepared for our home and how to protect it, we cannot forget about our HVAC units. There are several ways you can prepare and protect your HVAC unit against the seasons threats.
  • There is no set way to avoid lightening strikes however, you can be prepared by installing a surge protector for your HVAC unit.
  • Make sure that your unit is on a concrete slab. Florida is prone to flooding which could make for an uneven ground. You want to make sure that your unit is above water. Even a tropical storm could cause enough flooding to make the ground uneven.
  • If you haven't already, schedule a maintenance before the first storm. It is recommended that you have two maintenances year, one every six months, on your system. This will help prevent costly repairs at times you need it the most. When facing hurricanes, you want your system to be at its best working condition to be able to fight and/or outlast the storm. If you do not currently have a surge protector, we can install this for you at that visit. Just let us know in advance and we will be happy to accommodate.
  • Remove any debris from your yard that could easily be thrown around by the wind.
  • Trim any dead limbs on the trees around your home or unit to prevent branches and debris from falling onto your unit.
  • During the storm be sure to shut your unit off.
  • When the storm is over, check the system thoroughly for any damages. Do not power on your system if there are apparent damages. This could damage your system further. Contact us to check and make all the possible repairs before running your unit again.
